Hi All,

I need to paint our upstairs toilet room which is tiny. My stepladder won't fit as the toilet is in the way when the steps are open (A frame stepladder). I'd rather not stand on the toilet seat as I'm not exactly the lightest person. What do the pro's do in these circumstances? I've attached a pic. The toilet room is 80cms wide.

Cheers
Daz

A stool? I need to decorate the window so need to get as close to it as possible.

I too would not stand on a toilet, something like this that fits would do.

Or you could knock one up out of some spare timber. Google 'hop up work platform'.

A height adjustable step/combi ladder will enable you you rest the ladder over the top of the window. I have a couple of (significantly) cheaper versions of the following

Bit of a PITA though, you will need to lean through the ladder to paint the window.

That said, I have used my version of the above to span pans, with both legs on the floor and against the wall (when papering rather than painting), the ladder cannot go anywhere even though the top mechanism is not locked. Downside, it is a bit awkward to climb onto the ladder because of the limited space to get your feet on to the rungs.

You could use timber and ply to build a "stool" (read:platform) which sits higher than the loo seat. Check local skips for scraps.

I weigh approximately 68kg. If the customer is out, I have no problem with standing on the loo pan.

edit: sorry @freddiemercurystwin I was penning my response whilst you posted yours.

That said now I think about it, an ordinary step ladder can be placed diagonally, kind of straddling the toilet, that's normally allowed me to get close enough to the wall etc.

I am considerably more than 68kg unfortunately. :( :p

Yeah, it can't collapse if it can't slide.

3 years ago, I was only 65Kg. I either need to drink less or eat less. Meh, who needs food.

Put scaffolding around the toilet to support it and then stand on it!!!
