What do we need to do to ths room before a new window is fitted? The old window is already removed, due to roof work.

First post.

Do we need a lintel on top of the wood in the picture? To add a big window above, or rather three. This is a dormer room.
There used to be taller windows which have been removed to do the work.

We have had work done on the roof below the dormer room, which was leaking, and are going to have shorter windows in this room instead, as the window aperture is now smaller, from what was there before, as the roof has been built up, so now we have a smaller window gap, same width but smaller height, and I want to get the window ordered.

Am I able to order the window, or do we need to get some sort of lintel? Is the horizontal wood adequate as a lintel?
I guess I won't be able to order the window as the measurements won't be right if there is something else to add?

I was assuming and hoping we could just put a windowsill that I would get from the window company, on the wood, then a window?
All installed at the same time.

My priority is the getting the window installed, but what about the underneath, can the woodwork / new roofspace be boxed up with plasterboard and insulation to replace the (now higher) wall.

What are our next steps?

Any advice will be most welcome, thanks a lot.
