I am looking for a "T" handle with a 12mm square socket on the end. i have an idea I have seen them used on old machine tools in an aero factory. The work "plug" comes to mind. Like a Coach lock handle, but female.

Have they got a name I can search for?

Two other options

1. get say a 10mm T handled hex (allen) wrench and then get a 1/2" sq drive x 10mm socket and fit it to the hex wrench.

2. Some of the lathe quick change tool posts use square head screws to hold the tool bits, you can buy spare keys for these. I cant post a direct link but if you go to page 509 of this companies virtual cataloge the spare keys are at the bottom right.

thanks!

"Nut driver" looks like the right name but they seem to be mostly in smaller sizes.

the Lathe tool changer is probably where i saw them before, thanks for the link.

It is only to operate a drain cock so I don't need a fine expensive engineering tool, I will browse for prices. The catalogue calls it a Tee Wrench so I can search for that as well.

A half-inch would probably do, as would a hex although the drain cock is square.

Thanks!

But p/no 9200.W012 looks too big, it has a 250mm tommy-bar - I only need 50mm or 75mm to fit into the cramped space (ooi, it is to fit the drain cock on this, not to undo a nut)

I think i will have a look at 1/2" socket set parts and see what I can assemble, unless I see a cheap nut driver.

Would that be any good?

One of the ends on mine fits a standard (I presume) drain cock

Good idea. I just dug mine out, but found it doesn't have a 12mm socket, ordinary DOCs are smaller. the biggest socket looks like about 9mm

Not sure if it will help, but at work we call the socket on a t bar tool a 'nut spinner'.

Not sure if its a proper tool name, or an affectionate nickname though.

In my small 1/4" socket set, I have a long extention and a t bar attatchment, but it would end up being quite an expensive soloution I think.

Could you try your local hardware store or steel works to see if they have a piece of small box section which would fit the drain cock?

can't you reach it with an open ended 8mm spanner length ways and grip the other end with your grips?

(it's a 12mm square)

I can actually turn it with my 75mm miniature shifter, but this is going to wear it in time, so I think a well-fittting T and socket will be better.

If it's 12mm square, can you not turn it with a ½inch drive extention. (used the wrong way round) You could then use a ½inch or 13mm spanner on the other end for purchase.

before my time.

Have you got a spare one in your shed?

- yes, that is one of the things I will try. I have got some old socket bits in the garage. A T-handled nut spinner would be ideal though, so I am keeping an eye on Fleabay's poor-quality tools section.
