What have you been doing today?

Thanks everyone.

Had a nice day today, a good long chat with my sister, phoned my uncle and told him the sad news, our son came round to see me and we went over our daughters for dinner. Got given a booklet at the hospital so I’m assuming that will give me an idea so I’ll have a read through that when I’m up to it.

I had a rather intimidating few hours at the local hospital....

We, Avril and I, were collected, and returned home by the hospital's in house taxi service, to be shown some of the in's, and outs of the dialysis systems. The home automated system, comes in a massive suitcase, sized transit case. Then they supply 35 large boxes of consumables, per month, which storage has to be found for. I anticipated they would need to install two-pipes, flow and return, but apparently they don't work that way. Just one pipe, fluid pumped in, then later out, as the process continues. Apparently the system phones home, to update the hospital on progress, and I will have to run the process for 8 hours, 5 to 7 nights per week.

The explained process, I/we would have to do at home, setting and using the machine, all sounded very complex and involved. I've another appointment, scheduled for early next month, to meet my consultant, and more tests. When the time, and need comes, they will operate to fit the pipe, first, followed later, by a few days at a training centre, in Manchester, with Avril, to make sure we are familiar with the kit.

Absolutely not, looking forward to it!

I ordered a Union Flag 90x150, from Ali., which was delivered yesterday. The order said 90x150, the package said 90x150cms, but opening it up and measuring it was the next size down 58x93, around half the area, so I immediately raised a dispute. They had refunded the full cost, inc, postage by this morning, and keep the item.

So this morning, a full size one was reordered from a different supplier. In the meantime, we have been adapting a surplus carbon fibre caravan awning pole, to act as an extension to our already extended washing line pole. The washing line pole, was originally set in concrete, a little way down the back garden, using the house as two additional attachment points, making a sort of V of the washing lines.

Decades ago, I took the pole out, broke up the concrete, welded a steel scaff. pole onto the bottom, to greatly increase its height. That was then set at the very back of the garden.

Today, we bushed and drilled the fibre pole, so it would pivot, on one of the washing pole pins, with a rope and pulley to raise the fibre pole, complete with its temporary under-size flag at the top. So should be easy to drop back down, to swap when the full size item turns up. It looks well, flying in the breeze, around 7m high, and very visible.

Picked up the new car yesterday afternoon. Been playing with it and I even let mrs Mottie have a go of it too. ;) Been out in it last night round the lanes to try out the headlamps - bloody marvellous, the best main beam I ever had on a car, it automatically dips when another car comes towards you. The HUD is bloody great too. Mind you, it’s told me off about 20 times so far - I’m going to have to read the book and show it who's the boss! I’m ashamed to say, I couldn’t find how to put the bloody parking brake on so I had to Google it!

Today I’ve been round our mums house clearing up and chucking food out of the fridge etc. Found her will and apart from it stating a decent sum is to be given to each of her grandchildren (mine and my sisters kids) there was a handwritten note from her in with the will asking us to also give a similar amount to her great grandchildren or to be held back and given to any other great grandchildren not yet born if their mum is pregnant at the time of her death. She must have written that just over a year ago when our Hollie was expecting Isabel. That choked us both up a bit.

The first Union Flag, which was delivered, was a size smaller than ordered, for which a full refund was issued, so a second one was ordered. Today, despite the heavy rain, we managed to replace the under-sized one, with the full-sized version, on our improvised flag pole, at the very back of the garden. The very back of the garden, is not as pointless as it may sound - it is just 50 yards from the main east/west rail line, with lots of passing traffic. Much more visible than were it at the front, where it would only be visible to the occasional, passing car driver.

Went with my sister up to the town hall to register our mums death, then to the undertaker to book the funeral. Going to her bank tomorrow to find out what’s what and I made a start on the probate application tonight. Going to do it myself - a probate company wanted £1500 to fill the form in!

My new space saver kit arrived today so before I fitted in the car, I tried it out to make sure the jack worked and the wheel fitted - I didn’t want to find out that they were no good in a years time on the side of a motorway in the dark and in the rain! All good so into the boot they went.

Probate is a doddle very straight forward with a 5 minute visit to probate office at the end . Done my brothers about 14 years ago total cost then was less than 150 quid

I hope you fitted the other 3 wheel nuts.

I have just received a strange text, from an unknown mobile number, asking if I'd made a payment to a very strange Russian video games company, quoting the last four digits of my credit card, and I should reply with yes or no, to the text.

Scam thought I, so I checked my credit card number, the numbers were correct, so then I rang my bank. The bank said they had sent me a text, before this one, which I had not heard, warning me to expect the second text - then passed me over to the fraud department.

The fraud department suggested that there were three payments, to this games company today, using my card, plus one regular payment for my mobile phone sim, and a genuine ebay payment yesterday.

The three payments were stopped, and a new card issued. I was then quizzed if I had ever used the card for online, or music subscriptions etc.. I don't, the card only pays for ebay purchases, and the phone sim. I never use the card itself, I only use Apple pay. So we were both stumped on how they got the card details.

Obviously the three payments had been flagged up by their systems, as suspicious transactions.
