In the beaters wagon on the way there:

On the way back, sodden and shivering. I had to put my hat on her:

Jumped on a train at my local station and in just over 25 minutes we were up by Tower Bridge where we had a walk along the river and looked at the overpriced tourist tat and food stalls (£12 for a sausage in a roll) in the riverside winter market. Had a drink in a regular bar, got back on the train and went back home. Not a bad way to spend a few hours on a Saturday.

I do wonder who, or why anyone would pay that. Local place had a little tub of hot chestnuts, for £8. Just round the corner, in Home Bargains, they were selling ready roasted and shelled, for £1.25 for a much larger bag - or take a walk in the local park, and you can collect and roast your own.

When we came back from our dog walk this morning, I went out and did a bit of litter picking down our road, specifically, the flower bed across the road that a few of us have adopted, weeded, planted and wood chipped. A few McD boxes (Weird because we have no McD places in either Hornchurch or Upminster) and a couple of beer cans. I used my litter picker and when I picked up one can, it still had beer in it so I emptied it out. It was taking ages so I gave it a good shake and about a dozen dead slugs came out of it. Yuk!

Can you see how many there are?

I’m in the doghouse!
For the last 4 or 5 days, we've been seeing a few tiny, tiny insects on our ceiling in the kitchen. We've just been hoovering them off with the cordless vacuum. Couldn’t work out what they were or where they were coming from. Today, I managed to get a decent picture of one and did an image search.

Turns out it was a Bruchid beetle. When I read up on them, it said they hatch out of a bean, having been laid during the summer. It was then that I remembered I had put some of my Borlotti beans from the allotment into the little space in the cupboard above the fridge to dry out and I’d completely forgotten about them. This was the state of the beans:

Of course, when I got up to have a good look it was infested! What's more, they had been dropping into the fridge each time the door was opened and there were quite a few dead ones in the top door shelf/tray and even more squished in the door seal.

I had to give it a good clean out and I’ve been told quite firmly, no more Borlotti beans next year!

Trying to diagnose a head pain....

I've suffered it for years, but only very rarely suffer bouts of it, but debilitating when it strikes. Like a stabbing pain, one side of my head/scalp/ear/jaw, comes and goes, frequently, and without warning. I've always assumed it was some sort of earache. I've had it several days, tried using Otex, etc., seemed to help a little, but it came back. Finally worked out a name for it - Trigeminal Neuralgia.

Where would we be without Dr Google?

Trigeminal Neuralgia - I sincerely hope not. Even at its mildest forms debilitating and life changing with limited treatment options.
