What have you been doing today?

Went out with my Mum to Dunham Massey to see the gardens, then we went to the nearby Axe and Cleaver for an early Mothers' Day meal. We stopped off at a couple of nurseries and bought some plants then went to my gaff where she caught up with the youngest one who had come home from Uni for a rugby match tomorrow in Leigh. He's playing for Lancashire and they are up against Durham.

He's been playing for Stockport RUFC since he was 6, and used to play for Cheshire and has also trained with Sale Sharks, but now he's at Uni in Manchester, he is playing for Lancs.

In his final season in the last game before playing for the seniors, he played Novocastrians when his team was U18s (Colts) and the final score was 33-14. What Durham will be like will be anybody's guess, but I'll try and give you an update tomorrow.

Trying to give stuff to charity shops. Mrs Mottie had a load of stuff from her mums house, couldn’t get any places to look at it, let alone take it. Lamps, ornaments, dinner sets etc. Only place I could donate locally is the Sue Ryder shop in Hornchurch and they will only take stuff from pre-approved existing gift aid donators. Luckily I’m on their books so they (begrudgingly) took some stuff from me the other week. Today - no! "Staff shortages". How f'cking short of staff do you have to be to take something and just put it in the store/sorting room. I’ll try again next week but if no luck, it’ll have to go to the tip which will be a bloody shame. These charity shops are a becoming a bit of a joke lately - have you seen the prices some of them ask for donated items?

Many years ago I was refurbing a flat in St Johns Wood, sleeping on site under a dust sheet. One day a plumber came to do some work and said he was going to have a look in the charity shops, he said they were full of top designer name clothing and they sold them for pennies. I took the missus back at the weekend and she bought a couple of coats, she couldn't believe the stuff they were selling. Couple of weeks later there was a big article in one of the Sunday paper magazines, 'cheapest designer labels in London' or something like that, the shops changed overnight.
