What have you been doing today?

Been to Urology.

Still having issues. Am taking D Mannose long term and also cranberry tablets.

As previously posted, I have a history of suffering repeated UTIs. After each UTI, I would get antibiotics from my GP.

I have had multiple scans and cystoscopies, DRAs and PSA blood checks and no causes have been found. My urinary tract had been declared fit and free of any issues by the previous consultant after these tests. He told me there was nothing more that could be done for me. In due course, I continued to suffer more UTIs and requested more ABs from the GP to the point (many years later) where the GP said we cannot continue to give you ABs, as the consultant urologist has given you a clean bill of health in that regard.

So it was at this point I started taking the D Mannose and cranberry, to try and lessen the chances of infection.

And it has been good, but I have had several nights where I have spent all night up and down on the loo with milder UTI symptoms (frequent urge to pee but unable to do more than a few drops) that have disappeared within a day or so.

But I'm still plagued with frequency, urgency, nocturia and a feeling of urinary retention.

So, in September, I requested an appointment with urology again.

I had that appointment today.

As an example of how my bladder works, I had a pint of water this morning. I went before I left the house at 11.45. I caught the bus at 12.11. At 13.00, it arrived at the bus station desperate for a pee. I didn't want to go to the bus station. I could have got off ages before and changed buses for the hospital, but it was convenient for a pee.

Then I got the bus to the hospital which was waiting for me and at 13.18 I went straight to the nearest loo in the hospital, then to my appointment. I went to the loo again to give them a sample while I was there. Then I went again before I left the hospital. I took a longer walk to the bus stop to get home but was desperate for a pee when I got to the bus stop and there wasn't one until 15.34 so I called a taxi to get home quicker. I got home about 15.40. So that's 6 pees in around 4 hours. And no, I'm not diabetic!

Anyway, back to my urology appointment.

It started with the usual questionnaire about how I was getting on bladder-wise.
Then I met a new consultant who gave me a DRA and an ultrasound bladder scan. He then asked a nurse to take some blood to recheck my PSA. Then I gave them a urine sample which was checked for blood and glucose (there are other tests - pH between 5 & 7, protein, nitrite and ketones - but I'm not sure whether they were carried out) and then sent away for culture. I said you won't find any, there's not an ounce of culture in me!

A pH value over 7 could be a sign of a bacterial UTI like cystitis, and the presence of Leukocytes or Nitrites may also be a sign of bacterial infection.

High protein levels could indicate nephritis.
Glucose and ketones in pee are signs of high blood sugar.

So, I will get my test results in a couple of days, I guess on my NHS app.

In the meantime, the consultant say down with me and asked which of my symptoms I would most likely help with.

I said frequency and urgency. The nocturia (getting up at night to pee) has been a long term thing and is much lower down on the list.

He prescribed me Pamsvax XL which is Tamsulosin Hydrochloride. It basically lowers tension in the prostate and urethra muscles, allowing you to pee more easily and it also reduces the sensations of urgency.

With a bit of luck it might reduce my night time peeing too! But if not I'm not too bothered.

But what I'm a bit peed off about (pun intended) is that both my original consultant and my GP basically gave up on me, saying there was nothing more they could do, when there bloody well was!

Just back from the gym, still in pain with my leg so I thought I would try a few squats with light weights to ease the pain, think I have made. it worse so now laid on my back with it elevated trying to get right for work in morning. Had the chance of being on call this week but my line manager told me to rest up as he is worried that I go off sick. No chance of that, I told him I wanted to be on call but he refused it,, bloody fuming!!!!! Last time I am telling him I am not 100%

I hope it works out for you. It is annoying when professionals run out of ideas or get things wrong.

Bloods appointment, at 11:30 this morning. I have it down to a very slick operation. The surgery has the blood appointments, online, so I can pick the one which suites me, rather than ringing, and then offering one after the other. I always get there a little early, I walked in at 11.05, 'clocked in', then called in at 11:06, back home well before my appointment time. I hate appointments - I'm bit obsessive about them, don't like letting people down, so I always get there in plenty of time.

Buying car insurance - Online.
WTF does it take so lloonngg, 2.5 hours start to finish, thought doing things online was supposed to quicker and more convenient?

Which bit of Rest, Ice, Elevation, Compression, don't you get?

When you get older, you don't get weaker, you just injure yourself more.

If you have pulled a muscle and keep training you risk damaging the tendons.

Versus, what we used to have to do - popping along to a local broker, and trusting them to find you a good deal, and being able to find a much better deal yourself, online?

FFS i told you about this before and you didn't listen, maybe you did and dismissed it. Anyway, this is for you and or any other bloke out here, a close friend of mine had very similar issues to you, as i am a researcher by somewhat profession we set about trying to get to the 'bottom' of his condition.

I STRONGLY advise you again and any others to explore the reddit group which speficially deals with 1000's of people who suffer these symptoms, think they're a gonna with Prostate or bladder cancer only to find it can be a mental/physical combination at times 'a passing phase' which can take some time to move on.

Some observations, AB's (Anti biotics) can be thrown at you from doctors as a quick A+B=R for remedy but it's not always that simple for men who's UTIs can be v different from us women who mostly pick up actual infections much easier due to how we are plumbed without going into obvious detail!
AB's have anti inflammatory effects which potentially disguise the underlying condition eg inflammation and NOT infection, some can even cause a UTI or aggravate on contiunuous cycles, my friend discovered this, i was so annoyed i went to the doctor for him as he didn't want a confrontation, they were litterally making his life a nightmare because they didn't know what to do so just kept putting him on more AB's till the 'infection' gave up. However the AB he was on was causing an imbalance in natural bacteria in his tract causing him infections. Inept. I was furious his doctor in fact the whole surgery had NO idea about Pelvic pain syndrom in men and how to treat it. Its uneblievable.
He too went through all the tests some sounded rather invasive and unpleasant. At the least i would recommend a PSA test just to discount that, despite how controversially innacurate those results can be. Try the rest below first.

Anyway i digress, look up and read about 'Pelvic Pain Syndrome' in men lots of groups on Reddit - CPPS or Pelvi Pain or Prostatitus - Look them up., it can be brought on in many ways and the core aread cause all sorts of symptoms pain in one leg, one testicle, burning sensations, urges to pee, erectile, premature etc etc, it can have a massive impact on your state of mind as i witnessed with my friend.

Do you suffer flare ups? Does it come n go? Did an even trigger it, Sex or other trauma events can trigger this cycle.

Have you tried some of these?

Diet
Avoid Caffeine esp strong coffee, dark chocolate.
Spicey foot anything 'hot'
Acidic fruits can trigger lemons etc.

Avoid
Sitting down too long
Heavy squatting excercises

Exercise
Mid to long walks
Pelvic floor stretching
Yoga breathing techniques

Eat well and healthy don't focus too much on drinking too much, sometimes 'flushing' isn't the answer and just irritates your body more so.

If this helps anyone else on here good, there is way not enough help out there for men who 'man up' and suffer in silence.

I had chronic pelvic pain for quite a few years before my hernia finally popped out and became visible. Afterwards there has been no pain, just the bulge. I have since read that is quite common. They call them hidden hernias.

My turn to wait for a call back from the doc. This bloody cough is getting worse and on top of that I’ve been up half the night with an earache. Probably an ear infection. Oh, and I’ve lost my sense of smell. I’m falling to bits!
