What have you been doing today?

Our previous cat got run over and they put him in the boot and took him to the vet. As it happened, it was one of the vets in the same group as ours. But the funny thing was, it all happened in less than half an hour.

He came through the cat flap into the kitchen, I gave him a stroke, he had a drink, then he was gone. 26 minutes later, the vet rang, and I thought they were going to remind us about a vax shot. Of course, I couldn't believe he had died.
It transpired he got run over right outside our house, then was driven to the vet, so that explains it.

Found a couple of old quartz watches today. One round my house, one round my mums. Both not working and I suspect it’s just the batteries. I know the one in my house was working when last put in a drawer. I’ve ordered a couple of batteries and a watch case back remover from eBay - less than £6 for all 3 items so if I can get them going, I’ll give one to my grandson and one to my granddaughter as she is always wanting to take my watches off to look at them.

All sorted. Surprised how easy it was!

Mrs filly has a watch I bought which she rarely uses as she tends to wear her smart watch most of the time, she'll wear the other one if we're dining out. Anyway she took it to a bloke down our local market (Nick of time) and asked him to change the battery, it hasn't got a battery he said, it's solar powered, where do you keep it, she told him 'in the drawer'.

My G-Shock is solar powered and radio controlled. I keep that in a drawer. After a certain amount of time, it goes into standby and when I get it out and it picks up a signal, the hands sweep round to the correct time.

A friend of ours bought their daughter an automatic (not quartz) Tag watch and she took it back to complain that it wasn’t working - she had to keep winding it up when she hadn’t worn it for a few days. The shop had to explain that an automatic watch needs constant movement to keep it working. She ended up keeping the watch for herself and buying another Tag for her daughter, this time a battery powered quartz!

I bought my first born a Tag Aquaracer for his 18th.
I think it was from Goldsmiths.
They told him it was 18 month intervals for batteries and services, so I told him to budget for those.

I can't remember how it came about - bracelet adjustment? - but he went into another place, and they told him it would be closer to ten years.......

Still, at multiple hundreds a time, you can't blame Goldsmiths for trying

Second born, he chose a Tag Carrera, which is automatic. A classic looking watch.

That’s what my one was an Aquaracer grand date. My son has it now. I think I got 4 or 5 years before it needed a battery replacement.

Do you mean they wanted hundreds to change the battery? Pretty sure I only paid about £25 in our local jewellers to have it changed but that was about 10 years ago.

My dog used to like it……

Getting things organised, and ready for my catheter installation op tomorrow - wish me well? Patient Transport collects me at around 06:30, to get us both there for around 07:15. I've a second appointment then, midweek, to check up on how the op went, then all being well, and healed up, they transport us both over to Manchester, to teach us both how to operate the home dialysis machine.

Everyone seems absolutely confident, apart from me. Me, I am absolutely terrified, scared stiff. Apparently, it's keyhole surgery, and the surgeon intends putting some sort of patch in place, to cover a weakness where my belly button is.

Assuming all goes well, and does what it's supposed to do, I get some of my old energy and stamina back. Hopefully too, if it's poisons in my bloodstream causing these weird episodes, it should also put an end to those too.

Fingers crossed for you Harry and although it’s a big thing for you, it’s just a regular job for them so I’m sure it will go smoothly. (y)
