Tried to plant some bulbs in the bed in our front garden today but gave up - the ground was like concrete. I’m going to soak it heavily for the next week and try again when it softens up. The allium bulbs I bought are massive - the size of oranges and they grow to a metre high with a head the size of a football. Should look nice next summer - if I can dig a hole deep enough to plant them!

Well yesterday, not today, but I was racing at Silverstone.

Not an entirely smooth weekend. Never driven Silverstone before and you go straight into qualifying - took it easy for the first few laps to learn the circuit and then there was a collision (two other drivers) and the rest of the session was a safety car, so no representative time. Qualified 17th.

The race was eventful as could not find 3rd gear from 4th which very much interfered with slowing down for corners, but managed to make it through both races, not sure if just a loose linkage or a synchro issue. Finished 14th and 12th in each race.

Me (yellow Fiat) putting a move down the inside at Brooklands :)

Went and had my haircut and embarrassed myself at the same time. The haircut came to £16, I paid cash and I thought I’d given him a £3 tip but on the way home, and I don’t know why, I thought 'hang about, a ten pound note, a five pound note and two pound coins doesn’t equate to a £3 tip on £16’, it was a piddling pound tip. I could have died with embarrassment so I turned the car round, went back, apologised and gave him another couple of quid. He laughed about and said he appreciated it and there was no need but I can just imagine what he was saying to others when I’d left the shop. Worse still, when we were talking about holidays, I told him of the two cruises and a break in Portugal that I’d been on this year. I bet he thought the reason I could afford to go on three holidays was because I was a tight barsteward! Mrs Mottie said I should have given him £20 but I didn’t have £20 in cash on me (I had exactly £19.60) and I was going to pay by phone but changed my mind as I realised I had (just) enough cash on me. Dunno how it works in that place though - I’ve been charged £13, £16 and £19 in the past depending on who cuts my hair. I go there because it’s one of the few barbers round my way that isn't a Turkish launderette.

Took the pup to her new vets for her first vaccination. We had to show documentation and a certificate that the tail docking was legal and carried out by a vet before they would take her on. All okay on that front so the vaccination went ahead without a hitch - the vet gave her a few treats to nibble on while on the table and injected her in the scruff. She didn’t even notice and just kept on munching. Next jab in 4 weeks time along with a worming course and then she’s good to go out a week after that. While there, I had the vet check her chip to make sure it tallied with the details we had - our friend the breeder advised us to check in case there were any mix ups when the whole litter was chipped. All okay so I completed my registration with the chip company. While I was doing this, I also transferred ownership with the kennel club from the breeder to me and Mrs Mottie. The vet said the jab might make her a bit sleepy tonight but it seems to have had the opposite effect. Hopefully it’ll kick in later when we go to bed!

Edit: It has now. She's been zonked out since about 10.00!
