What have you been doing today?

I'm currently in the Emergency Department.

Had a shower earlier today and felt sick and dizzy. Thought I was too hot, so turned the heat down from 7 to 4, then off. Next thing I know, I wake up in a crumpled heap on the shower tray. My right big toe was bent over the next one at a mad angle. I couldn't do much for ages except trying to sit up with my back against the glass.

TBH, IDK how I didn't break the enclosure on the way down.

I arrived about 18.00 and I've seen triage and been told I might see a quack around 22.00, so fingers crossed. I'm going to have the toe looked at, along with bloods and an ECG.

I have had a few episodes of dizziness and sickness before, but none leading to blackouts.

My GP said it's BP related, so I assumed low, as, although I have hypertension, it's well controlled. But a paramedic told me it's usually high BP that does this.

A bit worrying.
I spent 3 hours sitting on the shower tray, much of it sleeping, as when I came round, I felt utterly wiped out.

Then I sat there bewildered, trying to work out how to get my slimmed down but still not insubstantial folded-up 131kg frame out of this small space.

Then I started feeling weird again, my vision was dimming and I had lost feeling in my right ankle. So I knew I had to make a push to get out and summoned up all my strength to drag myself out.

I still feel a bit spaced out even now.

Not bloody surprised your spring chicken coefficient is off a bit!
I daresay they'll tell you soon enough if there was an "event" which caused it. Could it be as simple as dehydration, + meds + the (blood pressure lowering) effect of the hot water? UTI?
3 hours seem like a long time, bound to cause complications.

Still, you've made it through, enough to waste some time with the donuts. Keep us updated, there's a whole bunch of silly old buggers wishing you well, mate.
Have you got any fam/ friends support? Hope so.
(Try not to touch the wrong bits on the nurses, they put your name on a list. Err, err, um,,, a friend told me...)

Danfre: Nice one.

JP :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
Not got anyone with me, Mrs S has work tomorrow so has to be in bed early!

Mottie: Cheers.

Filly: Thank you.

Just been told the waiting time has gone up by 2.5 hours...oh joy!

Checked in just before 6pm, should now be seen around 12.30.

Just realised, something similar happened to a friend of ours and she had to have a pacemaker fitted. Right as rain as soon as she got out although was advised not to drive for a period of time while it all healed up. Sges been back a few times over the years for checks and replacement batteries etc. From what she says, it’s not a full time pacemaker but it only kicks in when needed. Was a very routine op - fitted it while she was awake.

Mrs S's Dad has one. He was getting very out of breath doing simple stuff, but after it was fitted, he was away!

Just celebrated his 89th birthday not last weekend, but the weekend before that.

I've just had a handful of blood taken. Odd because it's always been taken from my left arm before. The nurse said they take it from the easiest to find vein and I have a very bulgy blue one on my left hand. They did an ECG too.

I asked them to look at my foot, but they said they are not toeologists, and that I have to see the doc.

Just seen a doc.

The toe she thinks is OK. She asked loads of questions about my whole medical history, poor thing, she was there for ages!

I'm back in the waiting room while she checks the ECG and chats to a consultant.

The blood results are fine, which is good.

Edit: ECG, not EEG. I'm tired, OK?!

Sounds like a serious attack of the whoopsies.
Probably a couple of dozen possibilities!

When they've done smoking and drinking and can't think of anything to say, they'll be on about losing weight, drinking more water, and all that. Probably would be appropriate for half the forum...

We'll all be guessing from anecdotal experiences -
They'll have done a CRP check to see if there's any infection, like a Urinary Tract thing which can have surprising consequences, like you had. My inlaws kept getting those, with similar events.
If you have any heart history I'd suggest you ask for an "echo" , an echocardiogram. It's just ultrasound but gives a pretty comprehensive check. If my wife had had one earlier than she did, she'd still be alive. Takes half to one hour, painless. They're reassuring to have had, and GP's can't just call them up. They might put you on a treadmill at the same time looking for BP dips and all that.

If they can't be sure, they may send you home with a Holter Monitor, you wear for a day or three which checks things like heart and BP.

Hope you can get some sleep. You'll know you're doing OK if they let you have breakfast, so good luck for that. Everything's brighter after breakfast.

If you fail to tell us all about it, you get Reported, OK?(y)
