What is a reasonable price for...

Replacing the heating element in a water tank.

Replacing a kitchen tap.

(excluding parts).

The last time the water tank broke, the guy took less than an hour to change the element in the tank (friend of a friend so free), I can't imagine it takes more than an hour for a plumber to replace a tap.

But I have just been quoted £270 excluding parts, is that reasonable, or is it an "I don't want the job price".

I know the hot water tank will take less than an hour to fix, because that's how long it took the last guy, in-between teas.

So what's reasonable to fit a tap, I just want to make sure I don't get mickey moused.

Maybe an hour's labour is enough. Maybe it isn't.

We simply can't tell from the info you have posted. You hot water cylinder is totally irrelevant.

It don't take long providing all the isolation ponits work.
The tap backnut isn't rusted solid, It's don't need half the kitchen waste disconnected to gain access.
Is it a mixer tap or single taps ?
Is it a mixer tap located between the bowls or single taps located behind the bowl ?

I would do it for £100 + parts.

An immersion heater can be difficult and sometimes could damage
the tank if it's really stuck.
Ensure the guy puts a quality one in rather than a cheap one
otherwise you'll be replacing it again in a few years time if
you use the immersion heater to heat hot water regularly.

Is that for the immersion AND the tap.
Does it include VAT?
How long will the job take?

If it's a Megaflow the immersion will be mega Bucks!
if it's an Electrastream the 9Kw Immersion is £200 +Vat!!

How can anybody put a price on a job they cannot see, and from the very limited info forwarded by the OP!!
