What is this valve?

Can anyone please tell me what this is?

My young son unscrewed the top white cap!! I have re-screwed it up tight now, am I correct in assuming that no harm has been done.

I think its a lockshield valve with a drain off, the white caps are just for asthetics so no harm in unscrewing it.

Just looked inside the top cap and it is indeed a lockshield valve, because inside their is a socket to fit an allen key for adjustment.
