I'm supposed to be joining a "Whats Up" app thing, GBT (AI) tell me this can only be done (set up) with a smart phone. I don't have a smart phone!

There is a version that can be downloaded for a PC

However I am unclear as to whether it can be run entirely from a PC or do you still need the mobile phone

but did you have to register, set your account up on a smart phone
cant remember .....aaaaahhhh just remembered its linked to your phone so may be you need a phone ??
but cant rember a registration process as such just the usual prompts to complete a profile

but it was about 10 years ago when i actually joined

What’s app is a phone app which can be mirrored on a pc but not as a stand alone on computer .It needs a registered live phone number .

thanks everyone, i will just have to do without

which is probably a good thing, I would just waste my time on it

i only use watts app on a one to one basis and nothing extra ticked or turned on, so zero unwanted distraction:giggle:

Actually WhatsApp is a really good way to communicate with people, arrange things etc. a great time saver
I am sure it is, and I am going to miss out by not being on it

we have had a massive change to a comittee I am on and they have decided 'Whats-Up' is the way forward - I am the only one without a smart phone, starting to wonder if I am the only person on the planet not to have one - lol

It's an internet-based messaging system rather than telephone based sms yet both use your phone number. FB messenger is also internet based but requires a FB account. WhatsApp is better for sending pictures and videos as it's free. It also can be set to automatically store all pics and vids which FB does not. IMO it's excellent for group communication.
And yes, requires a smartphone to set up but can be used on the pc thereafter.
