What's the best thing for protecting knees

I have a gammy knee, I also need to kneel down onto a concrete floor at work quite a lot.

So I use a 4'x2'x1" sheet of foam plus knee pads in my trousers. this helps a lot however not doing it is better, so if I can ill use a low chair or raise the eqiupment being made.

I only have 1 pair of knees, I gotta look after them if I want to be able to carry my fishing gear when I retire :)

I remember an old meter-fitter who carried a small folding fishermans seat in his toolbag.

Bodd has it right.. the solution is to work on correcting the problem with your back. You don't say what you did, but as long as you don't have the red flags*, its likely that stretching and core work will fix your back over a period of time. Pilates, body balance, yoga etc will help. The problem with back injuries is they always cause secondary injuries and depending on what you did, kneeling might make it worse. Plus your gut feeling is to rest the back, which is often the worse thing to do.

Too much heavy lifting and bending over I suspect. A sports masseuse massaged it out. Told my arse muscles (gluts) are weak

Got this from homebase

I mean I had it massaged out so I guess it's not serious. The physio didn't think so. But did have hip adjusted by a quack chiropractor abroad 18 yrs ago to change leg length and that has left me having to wear a sacroiliac belt whenever I run. Physio would like an x ray and or mri. I know what gps are like it'll be a nightmare persuading them. There could be a pink between hip and back.
