Which drill bit for door handle spindle?

go for 15 to 18mm flat bit no need to make it to tight
you can use a half inch bit but leaves no room for error
and when you fit the handles move the handle up and down and sideways on the spindle and centralise on the movement
in other words if the handle moves say 12mm top to bottom the raise it 6mm

Thanks. I forgot to say I am using surface mounted locks with knobs to replace old ones that are a different size - will this make a difference?
If using knobs make sure you use the correct (longer) latches.
