Can I use 7mm door spindle in a 8mm hole when fitting new knobs?

Does it matter that the 7mm is a little bit loose in the hole? It's not so small that it turns/flips over within the hole.

I'm just finding it impossible to find the correct width spindle for these doors. 8mm spindles were too tight. 7mm are a bit loose. The spindles that came with the handles fit perfectly width ways but they're too long (I have shoulder issues so can't saw them)

Thank you

I would have thought that any play runs the risk of premature wear.
That may not be important depending on how "premature" it is.

The 8mm/7mm is the shaft measurement?
and the Length means handle/door/handle?

isn't there a neighbour who could help with cutting?
It's about 1 min per shaft with a hacksaw or mark the length with tape and take a nice cold six pack to a local garage -

The freeplay in the handle by using the smaller shaft would get on my nerves very quicky.
