Hi Guys

Could you let me know what inhibitor you'd use on my system?

I'm pretty sure there isn't anything in it as we brought the property with it drained down, unfortunately it was a repossession so I've no idea of the system's history.

the system is open vented (f & e tank in the loft)
Boiler is a Baxi Bermuda BBU 57/4m with 7 radiators on it.

I don't have much info on the BBU other than that model number.

Reading the forums, I can put in the inhibitor one of two ways

1) shut valves to a radiator,
drain the radiator,
re connect to closed valves,
add inhibtor through bleed screw,
make tight and re open valves

2) Shut feed to the F&E tank,
Drain system down again (not a bad idea if water is black??)
add inhibitor to now drained tank
open feed to the tank

I'm leaning towards the second one personally

any help appreciated

not outside no,
the staircase is behind the fireplace

and I can see a drain cock on the bottom elbow of one of the pipes under the stairs. (there are 3)

Just a case of connecting a hosepipe to it and putting it down the outside kitchen drain?

The reason I asked about the outside drain cock was that when you normally open a drain cock the washer is stuck and to remove it will cause black/dirty water to go everywhere.

You might be better off closing the rad valves on a small radiator and draining that down so that you can apply the inhibitor to the air bleed/plug on the top of the radiator. You can get a cartridge type of inhibitor which is used in a silicone gun.

Do you have a drain cock on the outside of your property?

Andy

very unlikely on a bbu system, the installer wouldn't have bothered as there is usually a drain on the front of the boiler heat exchanger on 401's and 552's

turn off the header tank feed add the inhibitor to the loft tank and then drain enough from a low point to get it into system then turn on header tank feed to refill the tank

Cheers for that,

Would sentinal X100 be the right stuff to use or is there something else you'd recommend?

and to go a little bit off subject,
would it be worth fitting a Mangabooster to the system?

Hi Guys,

I could use a hand on deciding what size MagnaBooster to buy,

the understairs pictures attached show the output from the boiler

Would I need a 22mm or a 28mm magnabooster?
I'm personally "guessing" the return is the 22mm pipe above the pump??
(although i don't know for sure!)

Reading the manual for the BBU online, there are 3 pipes into it, with the pump and F&E feed connected by a Tee on the outlet to top it up.

I've ordered the X100, just need to wait on it turning up.

Thanks for the help
