I've seen this mentioned numerous times but its not my many many years experience of using TRVs, mine last ~ 6/8 years and some do fail closed but I just renew them then. I don't touch mine year after year and at the start of the heating season, they just operate away normally. I'd like to know why they "stick" (shut) because there is a very hefty spring forcing them open, you can feel this if you push on the pin, it takes a fairly strong push to close them, they then just spring back open. Obviously, In summer time, the actuator will keep them forced shut.All makes stick if left in the closed position for a time in my experience.
