Hi Fellas,
Looking to buy a new electric shower for bathroom and looking to spend between £60-£80 does anybody have any reccomendations of which brands to go for and which to avoid?
thanks

For £60-£80 I'd take what you can get, as that's only going to buy a budget shower. Triton and Mira and both respectable brands.

As above...

you are not going to get much for £60-£80

just had a look at a well known sheds website and you can get a Triton for that money, I guess you could also get a Gainsbrough also.. If you can push your budget to £120 you could get a Mira, but don't get a Creda... I've seen better made margarine tubs!

The above advice is for the shower itself. You will need a dedicated power feed if there isn't one already there.

To be installed and certified/notified that will cost you somewhat more than the shower itself.

8.5kW.

Shall we do the sums on what flow rate that will support in the winter, if you want a 35° - 40° Δ.....

I dunno but I imagine it's about the same as the many, many thousands of others at the same power rating that people are quite happy with

Not that long ago, electric showers were typically 7kW and were fitted to rewireable 30A fuses, no RCD anywhere.

Before that, 4kW models were available. Rectangular boxes fixed on the wall with fixed inlet and outlet pipes, and a separate valve to control the water flow.

And before that it was a tin bath in the back parlour with water heated in buckets on the cooker.

Your point is?

thanks for all your replies fellas. it seems the choice is betweem mira and triton, although triton seem to be a lot cheaper than mira. If i was able to pay yhte extra and get a mira, what would be the benefits of that? would it just be relability or are mira a better performance shower?

Mira are much better showers than Triton..

and Triton are much better than Gainsborough

and Gainsborough are much better than Creda

IMHO..

Mira are expensive, but this is because they arent built down to a price.

You get slightly thicker internal wire, better heat exchangers, better controls (internal circuitry), better shower heads, better water inlets.

Triton have plastic water inlet. Mira have metal threaded fitting.

Takes ya choice

our triton has been on the wall for 5 years, used 2 times a day!!
Dont get me wrong, we had a Triton Amber2 that lasted about 7 years. Then things started to melt. They can last a long time, but I think a lot depends on the production line people and quality control. Mira will be more strict than Gainsborough or Creda, for example. Creda will use cheap heat exchangers - plastic instead of copper for instance. Thinner plastic exteriors with cheaper ones.
