China has a problem with Islamic fundamentalism, so they lock some of them up in camps.
The Americans have had problems with Islamic fundamentalistism, so they bomb the crap out of them.
Which is worse.
When bombing doesn't work they starve them.
I was merely counteracting JohD's argument that because the UK has battery farming nothing need be done about China's wet markets.

I see transam is back with his usual modus operandi, stirring up hatred and division.
It's his motivation in posting on social media.
His comments make Trump's comments pale into insignificance.

He does make some valid points though. He says what a lot of people are thinking.

All of his comments are based on speculation.
He just likes stirring up hatred and division based on that speculation.
I dare say you'd be hard pressed to find a post of his that does not follow that MO.

A part of the "Counterfactual Community”, whose playbook is: dismiss, distort, distract, dismay."

Sooey is even worse.

The UK has vaccinated 3.million so.fsr more than any country in the EU or more than all. Of em. Combined

What the UK is doing in this area is probably being discussed else where in the world. There are 3 approved vaccines here now and the way they will be used is likely to be balanced to ease of getting them into as many people as possible. The -60C one is tricky for that, The -20C one a bit better but very easy with the one that just needs a fridge. That was the aim from day one with the Oxford vaccine. Cheap too and easy to get out to use apart from packaging and quality checks but that applies to all.

In some respects relative effectivenesses doesn't matter providing it significantly reduces deaths from infections and keep people out of hospital. Any reduction really. Then comes the change in the time between doses which it seems the makers are not happy about, Why - the trials gathered data over an extender period of time. Info will be more scant over the first weeks of receiving the first dose. The longer they follow up the results the more chance people have of becoming infected. So we are following a calculated route aimed at getting one dose in as many people as quickly as possible. All of the people in the trials appear to have received both doses or maybe they didn't. Some with one for some reason received a 1/2 dose.

We may have another problem as well. By the time the entire population has been vaccinated it may be past the time when those getting it first need another as their immunity levels have dropped too far. While this is all going on covid will still be around and spreading. The actual effects of that are largely unknown. They do now know that infected people have lost "immunity" around 5months after being infected and that they can still carry the virus and infect others anyway. There will be a lot more info available over time after many millions have been vaccinated. How do they find out. Maybe watch to see if hospital entries start building up again. Currently It seems it will take a couple of months to get the boosters out to those that need it. Maybe they will monitor antibodies in some people who receive the vaccine but capacity to do that seems to be limited. Thousands not millions.

What are other countries doing - I don't know. Web. These seem to fit in with comments from our own news.

China has caused speculation by there actions & lack of communication.
All they do is deny any responsibility.

You think the UK's PM, and the US's POTUS is a model of respectability and openness?
"let him who is without sin cast the first stone", and all that.

According to Lauren Rodda, PhD, a senior postdoctoral fellow in immunology at the University of Washington School of Medicine, we don’t know for certain if people are immune to reinfection simply because not enough studies have been done yet.

“This would require tracking the re-exposure of a significant number of people and determining if they get sick,” she said.

Our knowledge in this area continues to grow, however, as new studies are conducted.

Most recently, a study published in the journal Science has found that immunity can last for as long as 8 months.

Which is why our lot are saying about 5 months, Truth is that it's not an easy thing to look into. Porton Down have been doing it as there is currently no easy to use test for antibodies,
