I assume maybe wrongly that "fuel"was the stuff in the reactor
Leaving behind a radioactive compartment that has to be meticulously sealed.
Of course before you 'de-fuel' the reactor, you have to have somewhere to store the radioactive material.
The MOD haven't even worked that one out yet, so many UK subs have been in 'storage' longer than they were in service!

Apparently some subs were defuelled up to 2004, since then the UK lost the capability to carry it out, I guess the spent fuel is held at Sellafield or another nuclear site

Nope...

At least 9 subs still have fuel onboard...

And no complete sub has been totally decommissioned since the '80's...

But hey, £7.5bn already allocated to disposing of said subs (at a date yet to be arranged) is but a drop in the ocean...

Sellafield is estimated to be costing £70bn to clean up, so it appears to be a game of 'pass the radioactive parcel'...
(One must of course realise it will be at least double that amount)

Where is the spent fuel held then ?

Its like Victoria Beckum saying she is a 'working mum'.

Or Paris Hilton saying she works.........
