Why are you confusing levels of CO2 at sea level with those found in the upper atmosphere? You seem a bit ill informed about the effects of CO2 on the planet? Either that or you don't understand the difference?

Which is it?

I'm happy for people to use their opinions.
People disagree on things all the time, and that's a natural thing to happen, we can't all agree all of the time.

But to dismiss settled science because "it is my opinion they are all wrong" is just stupid. It's like someone saying "it is my opinion the earth is flat" and no one is allowed to challenge it because it is their opinion.

Madness.

the moderators have rejected Aveatrys posting of misinformation

I bet Aveatry will be back claiming its proof of how DIYnot is stifling "the truth about climate change"

conspiracy theorists live and thrive in a spiral of lies

Not much sign that China or USA are following UK's good example, if such it be.
Are you kidding? In three months last year China installed more Wind Turbine capacity than we have in total (around 120GW installed just in 2024 to our 30 total).

The US is slower, only adding 7GW last year.

It's far more for PV I believe for both of them than us.

China is putting huge amounts of renewables online and is accelerating as more manufacturing capacity comes online.

Agree on the USA but China?

For my money, China will be sufficient in renewables soon enough and, when they are, "we" will be wailing "Why didn't our government get onboard, and we could have been the leaders on this?".....................

China make and install more renewable capacity each year than the rest of the world combined.

They've still got a very dirty grid, but they're sinking huge amounts of investment into renewables.

Thanks for the clarity :)

I already knew China were going headlong into renewables, but was sketchy on the details.

Regarding the climate change the biggest impact is caused by the explosion of the world population and the resulting consumption of everything.

2 billion in 1920 to 8 billion in 2020 and increasing by about 200k per DAY

So not only does the world as a whole need to reduce the usage of fossil fuels it also needs to reduce the population and consumption of everything.

On the subject of electricity production - the UK should patting itself on the back for the enormous improvements it’s made in producing green energy over the last 15 years and there’s more to come.

Vehicles are now much cleaner than they were 15 years ago and mainly more economical.

Homes which pretty much produce the bulk of our emissions are still , in the main extremely inefficient.

Adjusting our emissions is very much like making a racing car go faster - there is NO silver bullet - there are lots of things that need doing, by us all, to improve our country.

As for the dirty countries - they undo far more than we improve each year, so a race for the UK to net zero is pretty much pointless in the short term as it’ll cost far too much.

Governments do a pretty poor job of communicating except with a mallet that people ignore.

Use less of everything, and what you do use please make sure it’s recyclable within the UK

I pretty much agree with everything in that, an excellent summary.

I think there is merit on a net zero target, without a target, nobody does much.

I think more grants for improving home insulation and energy efficiency is worthwhile.

The govt should put in place proper training for heat pumps and gas boilers…..WTF has it been a building regs requirement to only fit condensing boilers when virtually all installs of them…..don’t condense.

And take heat pumps, these are commonly fitted on new builds….but they are nearly always oversized and have poor system design.

It would be better focusing on the basic stuff than making big announcements with unrealistic targets like stopping sale of ICE cars and net zero by whenever date…….which is like pizzing at the moon

^^ The vast majority of homes in the UK older than 40 years are beyond help.

I’d like to see the maximum bus fare reduced back to £2 and published heavily AND the lunacy over train fare prices ended and reductions of ticket prices on quiet lines to
