I expect you have in mind the large increase in interest rates.
Older retired motor mechanic with cash savings, homeowners with no mortgage, never had a student loan, and older people thinking of taking an annuity, say "hooray."
It's funny how younger people with loans or mortgages, often with no savings or with no prospect of ever owning a house, feel differently.
