my existing thermostat is a drayton basic model which has four wires coming from it, a live and neutral feed an earth and another wire going to a terminal marked `3` i am asuming the rt300 dosnt need an earth and the live and neutral are self explanatry but where dose the wire going to the terminal marked `3` on my existing thermostat goto on the rt300.

That's the switched live; it goes to the SL terminal. Follow the 230V wiring instruction on the Salus.
