Hi everyone,

I have a faulty rad valve, seems to be very slowly leaking. It was originally a TRV4, and I just discarded the original themostatic top and put the smart thermostat on top of it, and obviously I could do the same again, just wondering what's the go-to replacement that plumbers use to avoid buying something and discarding half of it. It doesn't have to be Drayton, if there's another brand. I just need it to be compatible with the Wiser Home valve.

I have a box of these manual thermostat heads and tried Ebay but for some reason nobody was interested, so they are basically worthless I think.

Thanks for any tips!

It seems the trv body is just as expensive as one with a head. You could keep the trv heads in case you need them. Regards selling the others, depends if they’re new or not and branded or not. I must have scrapped loads of valves in the past as often I only need to replace the heads.

It's interesting that you find the head is less reliable than the valve. I'd expect it to be the other way round. I guess if I sell the house and take the Wiser system with me I could put the thermostatic valves back on, so there's that.

I had to renew valves, then swap heads, seems daft, but as @Stuckinarut says, whole valve cheaper than just the base. I have a draw full of heads, never used. Some TRV heads call it exercising, Wiser call it "Automatic valve protection runs" and it means the valves last longer if they have always had an electronic heads.
