I got some clear Matt vanish and was going to sand my floorboards and varnish.
They were so dirty I decided to use wood stain. I did 3 coats and it looks great.
I’m wondering do I need to use a varnish coat on top? My mum (apologies this makes me sound about 10 years old but she’s not too bad at decorating) says that woodstain has varnish in and it may be unnecessary to do a top coat of varnish. I thought woodstain is just the colour but she says no, wood dye is the colour and wood stain is all in one - varnish and colour.
it looks fine right now. I can’t be bothered with another 2 hours varnishing it, so is a top coat of varnish really necessary
?
thanks
