PS I'm a little bit drunk tonight, the sauvignon blanc (sp?) helped me write a few posts so apologies for spamming the thread. At least you have something to read and keep you entertained in the morning. Thank 'insert generic diety here' for spellcheck!
Hope the head isn't too bad this morning!! :)

Count yourself lucky you don't need to wear nappies to work, like some do in the US.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/may/12/poultry-workers-wear-diapers-work-bathroom-breaks

A report from international advocacy group Oxfam says poultry workers in the United States labor in a “climate of fear”, with some forced to wear diapers on the job.

We haven't got a patch on the US At-will employment laws where an employee can be dismissed by an employer for any reason.

Imagine your boss with those powers, but it looks like that's the path many have chosen.

Pretty much **** digger upper as said :)

But more and more we do repairs to water supply pipes and I have a specific set of skills (they only trust me to use the fancy equipment) so I get sent further than others without the skills.

I could go 130/140 miles to do a job. I like to get the leak found, repaired and the surface reinstated in the day but if the leak is not obvious or the pipework complicated they can be hard to find.

I think i’ll take the advice, i’ll PTLB and draw a cock on his car, that’ll learn him!!!

I don’t fancy either of those. I like the job stability, except there is nothing booked in for me today for the 2nd time in 15years.

I’ll just set off at 6.30 and see how I get on.

No, it’s normally a fry up.

It’s the principle, it’s always been included and now it’s been taken away. It increases my cost of living so I see it as a pay cut.
Wait til they half your pension!

It was company policy, probably because there are a few biggun’s around. I’m normal size, 5’10”, 14 stone, in very good health even with the occasional chokky bar.

It’s a joke. There’s no work in my area so they are sending me there. 1 of the other guys lives in Dudley so I wonder where he is going.

Redundancy would be better.

If you live in Rochdale, thats madness. That round trip has got to be 250 miles.

You should be on the 2 curly wurly rate minimum

Google maps says it’s 151 miles to Hereford, 160 by the time I pick my mate up.

Stourbridge must be one of those ‘can you just call in on your way home’

My old job was like that - I remember going to places like Liverpool and Birmingham just for the day, setting off from London at 4.30am. I couldn't do it now, life balance and all that, plus I just get too bloomin knacked.

How long have you worked for them?

While there is that saying "while you're marching, you ain't fighting", it's a crap drive through the m5 that way, especially since the roadworks.
If you have an accident as well, it won't reflect well on your gaffers, making you do that sort of mileage. Especially in a van.
