Tips please on cutting a hole in a worktop for a built-in 4-ring gas hob.
When doing a similar cutout for the sink, I used the upside down sink as a template.
For the gas hob, I will probaly have to use the existing worktop as a (heavy!) template. However, the new worktop is not quite as wide, so I will have to be very careful.

Thanks
Mike

When you get the hob mike there should either be a template or at lease instructions, and in there it should provide you with the measurements to cut the required hole in the worktop.

Thanks,
I am replacing the worktop but keeping the old hob.
So I don't have a template.
If I remove the hob, I can hopefully make a template on cardboard.

Dunno if you have a spare bit of thin plywood or similar knocking about. As my new worktops were expensive, I didn't want to c**k it up so I made a template cut from 3mm ply [I had a spare bit] rather than use cardboard. Gave me a more rigid template which I was able to temporarily clamp to the worktop [using pads so as not to damage the worktop surface] and also helped as a saw guide when cutting the worktop to save it veering off.

Mike - use the old worktop ... but only a section of it! Cut it so you've got about 100mm (in fact, any suitable length really as the object is to reduce weight) each side of the original cut-out. Use this short bit of old w/t as your template. Trim off the extra width form old w/t before use so it can be positioned.

just to add to the ither good advice

as you say the worktop is is narrower than the previouse one so keep this in mind and decide if you are going to for example fully loose 20mm under the new tiles or just 10 and adjust the cut out accordingly ;)
