I fitted a couple of laminated worktops before Christmas and am not totally happy with the results and may redo them later in the year. Part of the problem appears to be that each length of worktop sits on a different base, therefore the bases have to be exactly the same height and exactly level. Even though I had checked them all with a good spirit level. One base fell away by only about 1mm but this was enough to prevent the join closing fully. My question really revolves around the coloured sealant that is used for this job. Why does it set so quickly?
Doing the job alone, by the time I had got the buckles and plates tight underneath, the stuff had started to harden and prevented me closing the joint fully. When I redo this joint I will tackle it differently and hopefully get a better joint. The speed of curing for the sealant still concerns me though. Also, is this really a two man job?
