Hi having an extension built and extra sockets and lighting are reqd,my question is i have an old wylex 5 way board updated with circuit breakers the electrican has mentioned the board may not be up to latest regs. etc.Is this correct?

He's probable referring to the fact that you have no RCD protection on the sockets. Cheaper in the long run to go with what he suggests, after all, he's on site and the expert. Make sure he provides you with certification on completion.
