Hi my mother just had the above local authority property and she says they were in for 10 mins max, Worcester combi please around 8 years old.
Does this sound right ?
Thanks

1. If she has no other gas appliances you can just about do a gas safety check on the boiler in 10 minutes. It will be the absolute bare minimum of checking with a flue gas analyser, and just possibly a gas rating.
2. If there are any other gas appliances (e.g. hob), then unless there were two people working independently then a full safety check was carried out.
3. No service of any kind is possible in 10 minutes.

Thanks its the only gas appliance in the house. Can i ask in a time frame when you would do a service rather than a safety check ?
Thanks

1. They are different things.
2. Manufacturers usually specify and annual service. However, it mostly only happens while the owner is trying to keep a guarantee current.
3. The point of a service is to ensure the boiler is running efficiently and try and identify and rectify any problems early, before breakdown.
4. The point of a gas safety check is just that, to ensure it is safe to use, even if it is on the point of failing.
5. A safety check should be done as part of a service anyway, although it won't necessarily result in the issue of a Safety Certificate (CP12)

sadly this is an industry problem, all started by BG, they were charging for an annual service, but only do what they then changed their T&Cs to anuall safety check, now called poke and go, it is not any kind of service, it is the absolute minimum to tick boxes, it is an absolute disgrace and 90% of the so called engineers are totally clueless, not their fault, their bosses are on them like a nappy if they cant carry out 10-12 jobs a day, there is no possible way you can carry out that amount of proper services in a normal working day

Same as a car service and the annual MOT test. The MOT is just the absolute minimum standards.

I've just had mine serviced and it was also a bosch, the engineer took at least 45 minutes. he spent 10 minutes giving it a good clean :)

When something is free at point of use it's not always the best quality.

Like the NHS ? Utilities like BG must make profits for the shareholders(y)

Not specifically like the nhs, just that if youre not directly paying the bill you don't have any say on quality.
If that contractor had to present you with a bill at the end of the job he would make sure you were happy with the service.
Bg is not a utility anymore. It is as you correctly state a business and a fairly bad one or so i hear.

Thanks everyone I just wondered as she said he was in and out and I wondered why they wouldn’t service it when they were out but it has been explained on here now
Thanks
