You know there's an election looming when...

A politician is wandering the High St followed by the press pack & various hangers on. An old lady across the street stumbles & falls.

Now it would be political suicide for that politician not to cross the road & render assistance wouldn't it !

3hrs later the old lady is back home behind her drawn curtains & closed door. And nobody gives a damn about her.

This is the most fun you can have at this time of year . . .

Attend every political rally & meeting you can. Give it a few mins for the main speaker to get over the drivel then every 120secs simply raise your left arm & shout "YOU SAID THAT LAST TIME".

Yes it would be silly -perhaps you might like to ask somebody has done that why they are so silly -ask Ryler for example.
I was thinking more of ellal. He/she refuses to say what his/her job or area of expertise is so nobody could go to him/her for advice. I’ve seen you and JohnD chip in with good DIY/electrical/building advice so you’re both obviously in the trade but Ellie, for most, remains a mystery. I don’t really understand the secrecy. All it would take would be for him/her to just say I’m a man/woman* and I’m in the xxxxx trade. Feel free to ask my advice on any matters relating that. I’d give anyone advice on MOT or car related matters. But no, it his/her personal right not to divulge such information under the data protection act blah blah blah....
* delete as necessary.

I feel another locked thread coming on. Sorry.

Hurrah!

Great to see even the Express supports the tories in agreeing with Labour policies.

It did take them a while to see the light, though.

I dare say they'll be reversing Theresa's cuts to the police next. It'll put us back to where we were before.

If you raise he minimum wage as high as possible then the burden of having to support low wage earners is shifted from the government onto the employers, this should mean that the government saves money therefore less need to raise taxes.
Maybe this is too simplistic.

Its pretty accurate. But what a lot of employers tend to do is employ foreigners on low wages anyway and pay them cash.
Migrant workers in the Uk send home £8 billion per year back to their home countries.

The only true way to raise wages is by increasing productivity.

When a government sets higher min wages it does push the burdon onto employers, but businesses need to make money, so they in turn have to raise prices.
That then places the burden on the public and those people who have had wage increases will find the money in their pocket doesnt go as far.

Employers will tend to minimise the effect of increased wage costs by cutting staff numbers to the bone, zero hours contracts, part time staff etc.

The long term solution is to equip people with better vocational skills.
