We have been here before - sloppy tradesman.

Had a few phone calls from electricians with little or no work, asking if we have anything they could take on as a subby.

Letting some of our work out to others who are quiet...

In the past we have had issues with quality of workmanship when we do this, so are always selective.

Gave some work to a guy who is well known around here - changing light fittings in the bathrooms of a country house hotel, right through.

Had a complaint that they have been moving furniture to use as a stool, leaving cable ends and dust in the sinks, black hand marks on the fresh towels, and have been eating the complimentary biscuits in the rooms!

They had agreed that housekeeping would follow them through to make sure the rooms were fresh again, but not to leave it in a tip!

Turns out the guy has a couple chavvy guys working for him (which I did not realise) and they have been sent along :|

That's disgusting.

I think you should go and see the contractor and explain in no uncertain terms why this behaviour is unacceptable. How could he do this?

Hope it wasn't the Manor House Hotel.

I'm afraid that the case in a lot of cases nowadays. The main man comes in driving the van with all the logos in his suit or pristeen logo'd overalls with his technical/health and safety/tidiness speel.
Then when he gets the job he sends some chav in jeans and trainers and a car who has only been told how to do the job that morning. This chav is probably on a few quid cash in hand per day, whereas 'the boss' has charged a full company rate for the job and is creaming off a fair whack for doing nothing while he is out conning the next job out of someone !
