Wondered if you guys might be able to help me.

Do the rules for running cables within safe zones apply to surface mounting plastic trunking or conduit?
I know that if the cable is run outside a safe zone its supposed to be placed at least 50mm deep and mechanically protected, but does this apply to surface mounted trunking.

I keep swinging from one opinion to the other and can't make up my mind!!!

If i can run outside safe zones in trunking, could a kind soul please point my towards where i can find it in the regs.

Please help, its driving me mental.

Thanks

No it doesn't need to be in safe zones, that reg (don't have the number to hand) refers to cables 'burried in a wall or partition'

You arn't likely to drill through surface trunking (because you can see its there), unless you are a ****ing idiot

Brillant thank you!!!!!

I thought i'd read the regs right but i had a building control guy telling me it had to be in safe zone regardless.

Thanks for the reply

Unless there is a strong need for mechanical protection there is no need to run the cable in conduit.

Well, unless you want to for aesthetic reasons.
