How about the Mods create a place where we can post all our photo's of electrical howlers so people can see what NOT to do...

OK - Post pictures hosted on an image host server....

Someone needs to start the ball rolling, and ask an admin to sticky to thread...

Isn't "black museum" a bit un-PC?

Probably, but its a term of speech thats been used for years, and no one except pen-pushers finds it offensive

Toptrumper, is that a shower?
Baldelectrician
Do you remember those twist cap connections that were around in the seventies? My in-laws house has them, cores are just twisted together and an insulated cap screwed over them, scary

Wirenuts are still used in the USA today

the modern ones iirc have a metal inner though which bites into the cables.

I wish I had pictures, but was recently told this by another tradesman whom I trust not to elaborate...

He came across a customer who had clipped a pair of (empty) 15mm copper pipes around his lounge.

At one end they were connected to the phase and neutral at the CU, and at the other end, to nothing.

The guy then connected whatever appliance, or piece of hi-fi gadgetry he wanted, to the pipes using a pair of lorry jump leads, thus obviating the need for any socket outlets anywhere in the room.

Handy eh?

Don't try this at home!

The following four pictures are all from the same house

How not to make off the junction box for your wall lights
Oh and this was fed from a joint box straight off the ring!

Neutral not long enough to reach the terminal?
Simple, one strip connector and a bit of RED 2.5mm2
Job Done

This was used to connect a class 1 light fitting.
Inside the red tape are the little brass strips from a butchered ceiling rose?

Earth sleeving too thin for the cable? Simple just tape it to it!

And from a local church:

Blown a cartridge fuse? Simple, two lengths of 30A fuse wire.

This one is not too bad, Just old.

This is an old time clock that has to be wound by hand every couple of days. The little round black bits on the right are pots filled with mercury  to make the electrical connection!
