Let’s look at the points in question – you feel that the final of University Challenge should have been more equally weighted towards the sciences. My argument to this was that this is, in part, an entertainment program and as such should therefore reflect the needs of the audience that watches it and wish to partake in the game, of which (I suspect) the significant majority is more likely to be acquainted with the arts and social sciences. I have yet to be told the proportion of contestants that were studying science related disciplines. Hence it should be weighted accordingly.
The whole concept involves questioning (semi) professional “eggheads”, who, in the nicest possible way, are freaks of the education system. For you to have managed to answer 8 questions may well be of some satisfaction to you – although you may be disappointed – I, for one, don’t really want to compare myself to this peculiar benchmark as it is meaningless in any sphere other than the one in which they inhabit. As I have said, the whole idea is to peddle curious sideshow facts and trivia. So it matters not what is really asked anyway.
As in any other forum, contributors go off at tangents and sometimes even the perpendicular; sometimes seriously and sometimes tongue in cheek. You, yourself have been guilty of this within your own thread. So you can’t really claim that rule 6 has been broken without accusing yourself of the same.
