Things have been a bit slow recently on the plumbing and heating front. I'm thinking that it might be worth going 'legit' for a while.

This is the careers page from their site. They say that they pay between £55 and £125 p.h.
Sounds too good to be true. Does anyone know anything about them?

If they pay you that much, how much will their clients be paying? I wouldnt go near them.

DON'T JOIN THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were working for them last year, we stopped working for them, please find a few examples of their code of conduct:

Their aim is to stretch the job with trips to buy materials, wasting time, costing the customer lots more money. They are based in Kent, their staff are very rude, they won't give you the customers phone number as they think you will seal their job. And take ages to pay. If anything goes wrong then they withhold your money.

The owner of the company gave me his personal email address when he wanted copies of my public liability etc, then when I used it to email him regarding another matter a few weeks later the whole office went mad and he questioned me as to where I had got it from - which made me think he had something to hide.

Their website also does not have an address on it.........to avoid customers coming to see them maybe?!!

STAY AWAY!

Andy

Hey John, that's new. That wasn't on there before.

I've worked for them and they are an unprofessional bunch - I'd steer clear is all I'm saying.

^^^^ Same outfit

Any punter needing a plumber who happens to click on the 'careers' section of the site will have a shock. If they're paying staff £55 to £125 p.h., how much are they charging for their work?

Think I need to up my rates a bit!

I wonder if the bonus is that you qualify for the chance to meet Matt Allwright... :?:

If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is not true.
I've subbed years ago when the going was good, and the vast majority of companies ripped me off.
When you bear in mind that was in the days that people complained they couldn't find a plumber for love or money, you can imagine how well they would treat you today.

DON'T DO IT!

A couple of years on and things are still the same. Anyone thinking of using Home Services Direct or Plumbersdirect and now thelocalplumbers.org steer clear.
A young girl I know called them to clear a drain, she was told the cost was £45 per half hour. The "plumber" turned up after three days, told her the fee was £65 per half hour, stayed an hour and could not even clear the drain. I went around and rodded the drain and found the worm he left up there. If you are a plumber and value your reputation don't join these cowboys

Andy we do not encourage stretching the job out and would never encourage any Sub-contractor to do that; we also do not charge to collect parts.

With regards to wage payments we pay out on a two week turn around on receipt of the green copy of our invoice. As per our contract we do hold a job if there is a complaint from the customer and I don't feel this is unfair practice.

If you didn't agree with the way we operate why did you work for us on two occasions prior to your 2010 post and apply again in September 2014?

very generous to revive this old thread and put it back in the public eye.
