Im looking to switch the light fitting.

Made the classic mistake of taking the old fitting off and not documenting ANYTHING AARRGGG....

The room has 2 swtiches, one at either end of a flight of stairs...

THe hole in the ceiling has 3 wires together (black, red and earth)
and another 2 loose black leads with red collars.

The new fitting has 3 inputs... L,N and E...

how do i get the same 2 way switching functionality with just 3 inputs?

Cheers

When you say 3 wires double three cables each containing one black/red and earth?
Do you own a multi-meter - because it would handy , well essential really, if you had one.
Without knowing how wiring was installed before hand will mean you will have to identify which cables/conductors are the live loop, the neutral loop and the earth loop.

Your two black wires with red sleeving would suggest that they are switched live - these would normally go in your Live terminal on the new light switch. The black wires on the other cables would normally go into the Neutral terminal on the light. The earth cables would all go into the earth terminal.
The live loop conductors are connected together in a separate terminal strip.
Lots of big assumptions there though.
Look here for converting a ceiling rose to what you appear to have:

and here to see how two way lighting should be wired.

All reds together but not connected to fitting at all.

Blacks with red collars to L on ftg. Blacks to N on ftg. GY's to E on ftg.

no multimeter...

Ive got a 3 core wire RBG

and 2 single core black wires with red collars...

Ah this is why im so confused. and nothing seems to make sense...

i dont have more than one red...

the switched lives dont come with reds...

?????

Have a look in the switches and tell us if they have a black wire in the terminal marked:

C - if terminals are C,L1,L2 or
L1 - if terminals are L1,L2,L3

and if the other terminals (in the switches) have the same colours in each switch

but please be specific.
