Hi there, just joined up :D , I would really appreciate some advice please.

We have recently had a replacement Combi fitted, a Grant Vortex Pro 21.

It was fitted by a proffesional company and they did a nice tidy job of it, they were ofcourse being watched over by myself during the day !.

Everything works as should but i have a very annoying issue, After its been running for say hot water usage the burner stops but whilst the DHW pump is still running for the few minutes there are some very annoying sounds, It seems to start in the heart of the boiler and it sounds like a Fart in the bath followed by a Ssshhhh near the heat exchanger, then the cycle will will start again and repeat until the DHW pump cuts out then all is quiet.

On the central heating side of things all is quiet and works well. I did get the guy from the company back out soon after to look at it and he drained it down, fitted a new Larger auto bleed valve to that circuit and then recharged the system, After doing this the embarassing noises are reduced but still there, After spending £2800 i would very much like it to nice and quiet as stated on the manufacturers website !.

Oddly my mum and dad had a Pro26 fitted and this was quiet from the start but recently has started making the same sounds.?

I was told if it doesn't stop the next step would be to put it to Warranty, I would really appreciate any pointers on this issue please if possible ? :D

Many thanks,

Many thanks,

I cannot tell you exactly what is causing your noises as these problems usually need to be investigated at the appliance.

However, its under both the iunstaller's and manufacturer's warrrantees so no problem there.

I am sure that the professionals will have squirmed at the thought of you watching the installers all the time. We like to be left to get on with the job and to show the customer how its getting on at the eand of each day.

Not at all , infact with the amount of tea and snacks i gave them they had a great day !!,
He did say that if it continues which it does but not as bad the next step will be to call in the manufacturer under the Warranty, I'm not one for too much fuss to be honest and serviced/repaired my previous Potterton for 7 yrs lol. This has got me stumped tho ?.
Cheers.

Noise is caused by air in system.

Bleed radiators and the boiler.

Yep already done, there are 2 self bleed vents for hot water system and CH side , All radiators are air free and i have a constant steady system pressure of 1bar.

Its just when the hot water is used and/or the DHW pump is running i get the continual cycle of the two noises which do sound like air trapped then released back n forth ?

The noise is caused by small amounts of air within the water the water temperature circulating around the boiler at this point is approx 90'c so small amounts of air start to separate from the water mass causing the slight gurgling sounds you describe the good news is the noise should gradulaly die down over time as the separated air is expelled via the auto air vents on top of the hot water store.

Has inhibitor been added to the circulating water? I would be suprised if it hasn't given the glowing report about the installers.

If the noise continues after a couple of weeks contaft Grant UK they have a procedure to vent air trapped upstream of the non return valve in the HW circuit - there is a special tool provided with the boiler to aid this operation ;)

Anymore ideas on this peeps ?, If its something simple i can fix myself i would rather do that so to avoid the hassle of waiting home from work to let people in etc lol.

Cheers,

Sorry mate i just missed your post lol, The 2 auto vents have been left slightly open and it must be at least 1 month now since the installer came back to look at it so no more improvement since then,
Yes an inhibitor was used on refill and the CH side of things is quiet, its just when the hot water DHW pump is running.

I will contact grant uk at the beginning of the week as per your instructions, What tool should have been provided with the Boiler ?.

Cheers for your help mate !.

There should have been a small metal multi-tool about 120mm long, this is to vent the pump, and also release the plug in the non return valves.

The procedure to remove air from the boiler should be with the boiler manual (used to be on a loose sheet of paper)

If you call Grant UK for Service and live in E. Anglia it will probably be me that attends, so I look forward to tea & Bickys!! ;)

 , I'm in the somerset area !, Thanks for the info tho :D , I haven't got any tools with what they left me i dont think, I will give them a ring tommorow tho, Is there a particular Tel no for a member of the public (me) to ring service ?
Cheers.

Grant UK Warranty Dept (01380) 736920

You will need the Boiler Serial number - this is on the data plate inside the boiler case above the Burner on the left hand side.

As you are in Somerset you will probably have one of Grant's own Engineers form Devizes attend - John likes one Sugar in his tea!! ;)

lol, Thanks for that, I'm just wondering whether i ring my installer first incase i step on somebodys toes !!. I dont want to be seen making a mountain from a molehill but it was a £2800 job  lol.

Cheers.

I would always say that you should keep the installer informed before you call out the manufacturers under the warrantee.

In fact when I fit a new boiler I like to arrange any makers visits and attend myself.

He should always be given the opportunity to correct any problems which could be considered to be his responsibility.

When a manufacturer is called under a warrantee and finds that its an installion issue then they sometimes make a charge for their visit because its not a fault which is caused by any fault in the manufacturer's appliance.

It could well be air but after a month thats begining to sound unlikely.

The only suggestion I might make is that increasing the pressure to 1.5 Bar will often reduce noise caused by air and speed the elimination of air related noises.

Thanks, i will call them first, I find it odd that my parents had a Pro26 fitted about 3 months ago and it was silent, now though it is making similar noises to my 21 lol. Mine is nothing like as bad as when he came back and drained it down fitted a different auto bleed valve and refilled it BUT i can still hear it just not as loud !. It would be nice to get it perfect tho as my 12 yr old Potterton was pretty silent.
Thanks again.
