worms in toilet....yuck!

I have seen worms in the toilet pan several times over the past couple of years. I used to think they just crawled up the pipework...( is that possible ?)

Now I'm beginning to wonder if there is a crack in the pipe underground and that where they are coming from.

Or could it be birds dropping them over the stack.... is it a sort of breather pipe?

Any ways.... I'm starting to get quite sick at the thought of worms in my loo.

They are skinny reddish brown, and vary in size.

We don't have a header tank in the loft, that was taken away years ago when central heating was fitted.


And nooooo they aren't from us, having a couple of children, and dogs I know what parasitic worms look like lol

Soil pipe cracked is my guess as well. You could always take up fishing with all that readily available bait.

red worms are common where a drain or sewer has cracked or broken. Usually they live in the wet ground, where you find them when you dig out to repair.

If they are in your WC trap the crack is surely very close to the WC.

Thanks guys. OH POO!!!Actually! I should have known it would be a cracked pipe under ground.... we built a conservatory a few years ago, and the foundations are over the soil pipe. Although we did bridge it with paving slabs- I guess the weight got to it.

Oh and the loo is on the first floor so those pesky worms sure do travel lol

Your main problem here is not the worms in your toilet, if it is a cracked drain near the house, then there will be waste water leaking out which could potentially compromise the foundations of the building, I would recommend a drain inspector to locate exactly where the damage is and go from there, a look at a program called help my house is falling down may enlighten you as to what could happen if left alone!

Oh no children here... both grown up and left. We do have grandkids, but they are babies and the worms appeared in the middle of the night... grandkids are miles away in their own homes.

could water from the gutters be getting into the soil pipe? it should be quite separate. these worms must be coming from somewhere damp, and not very clean.

Are there any unused drains or capped-off pipes going to the soil stack?

If you leave a Richard the 3rd in there I can give you some tips on your diet. Too much iron or beetroot, not enough fibre etc.
