Hiya I have a full central heating system and radiators in each of my bedrooms withdial from 1 - 5 (I believe) the main thermostat is in the hall next to my bedroom. The question I have is how do I make sure my bedroom stays at 20C whilst I am on holiday? The reason I ask is that I have some tropical frogs and thats the minimum temprature that they can have at night!! Do I put the hall thermostat onto 20C on its dial and if so what do I put the radiator dial onto??? Ive never understood how it works!!! Please help!!!

Many thanks

Check in the instruction leaflet for the TRV, each number represents a different temperature, 20 degrees is probably in the middle, then turn it on to that number. Then I would have the room stat on 25 degrees to make sure it stays on, and put heating onto constant. All other rads in the property can be turned down or off.

turn the central heating off and put a oil filled rad with its own stat set to 20c, I would think its cheaper than running the ch to heat one room.

I dunno if I still have the instruction booklet for the radiators or boiler if if not where would u suggest I go about looking for a replacement?? Do I look for the boilers name and will the temprature settings for the radiators be in that or what do you mean by TRV??? As I am a complete newbie to this so all help is greatly appreciated!!!

Many Thanks

unless the frogs are roaming around the room, it would be far more sensible to have a thermostatically controlled heater in their tank. More often, their lamp will keep it warm. You also have to guard against overheating them, of course.

THat would be too sensible

You could convert your room stat to a wireless one. They are available on ebay for around £30. Then leave the portable half of the stat near the tank and set it at 20degrees. All other rads could then be turned down.

I think the idea of heating the tank only where they are kept is probably best. Most efficient use of energy. No need to heat the whole room.
This would be a permanent solution which could be left on all year round.
Alternatively you could get an electric converter heater and a wall thermostat. Position the heater away from the frogs but locate the thermostat next to where the frogs are kept. Again this could be left on all year round ( it won't heat if its not required).
TRV's are not very good at achieving an accurate temperature. For one thing they are sensing the room temperature usually at floor level.

You could always let them return to their tropical habitat instead of having to look at your ugly mug everyday.... :P

kiss them before you go, perhaps they'll turn into beautiful princesses.

When I worked in the Gulf there was a firm called Hunting Surveys who had a small team engaged in mapping the country.

One of them used to collect scorpions and keep them as pets in his bedroom!

Most were black but a few were pure white!

PS heat the tank. Equipment available at all good pet shops!
