DALE FARM TRAVELLERS EVICTED

I still don't understand the concept of a 'traveller', wanting a permenent base, but if offered a house, they say it contravines their rights, and they feel restricted? So which one is it?

This has been dragging on for 10 years already, they clearly have broken the law, they can appeal again, yawn.

Why don't they spend winter season in Wales or Bognor Regis, any seaside resort, that has lots of static caravans, I know folks have caravans there, that are 'static', why anyone would want to spend a holiday in the winter, in a caravan park, so free reign, local amenities available too, local shops, toilets, arcades to steal from, then summer season, go to Glastonbury, free music, loads of campers, blend right in, even setup a funfair?

Last time I went to Rhyl, it looked a bit downtrodden, maybe a huge influx of travellers can cheer the place up? Maybe a bit of tarmac, and lucky heather would cheer the place up? The local council would get a great deal.

That way the best of both worlds; a base for winter, where nobody goes, a base in summer, attending festivals, and travelling between the two to boot? Travellers know how to thow a party, maybe set up a marquee, for bare knuckle boxing competitions with all the stoners? Winner all round!

I recall the recent interview with one of these travellers, an older woman so it was.
She was regaling the reporter with tales of how the traveller ways were being marginalised and undermined and that it was a belittling of their heritage so she was. She then went on to state that she had lived at Dale Farm for around 15 years....

Talk about how to undermine your own argument!!

because they would be expected to pay?

Like every other person does for camping? They bought the land at Dale Farm, just used it illegally.

There is no suggestion regarding payments. What a strange comment to make.

A few more caravans turn up in a caravan park/campsite, that isn't used in the winter months, it's already an eyesore to anyone that doesn't like caravans enmass, but there is no rent being generated, due to the off season. It's win-win isn't it? More people with caravans paying rent.

Did they buy all of the land? If so, why could they only build on half of it?

You miss the vital point - no-one wants them anywhere near their locallity. Ask the locals around the Dale Farm area and see how business has dropped - how pubs have suffered these parasites.

Yes there is.

The suggestion is that, instead of illegally residing on land which they had bought at its low, non-residential price for green belt land, they might spend the winter at a legal, commercial site, and pay the site-owners a commercial fee.

I am sure you are familiar with the idea that land sold with planning permission for housing commands a far higher price than agricultural land does.

This is one of the reasons why there is a monetary advantage which tempts lawbreakers to buy agricultural land cheap, and illegally use it as residential land, without lawful permission. You have perhaps heard of planning permission?

When I go camping, I pay a ground rent....

I presume this charge is less than buying land?

What you have to remember, is that this was a 'suggestion', rather than a proposal....to be debated. So debate it, not shoot it down, like it's a proposal. If you have any ideas, please forward them on...You seem to suggest flaws with the plan, but no ideas to carry the idea forward?

Living on land, already commercially available, that needs no planning permission, paying ground rent, in an area, where static caravans already exist, where nobody populates, in the winter months, thus generating revenue for the site owner out of season, what is the issue?

Theres always been a legal travellers site next to a scrap yard owned by
Ray Bocking.
They where given permission to build on the legal site.
Then the saunders family moved down to buy land in the 80's and gained permission to built on legal site.
Then ray bocking gave up the scrap yard due to the council refusing permission to carry on business there he threatened them that he'll sell the land to the travellers and sold the land which is on green belt to John Sheridan who started to build without permission and sold the plots to relatives.
Then tried gaining planning permission that was turned down.
This is when the murder of Billy Williams took place over a land dispute.
