I've just noticed someone's thanks tally, just over 1,000 in four years.
He (I assume it's a he as his name is John) tends to inhabit the Car forums.
That's a rate of 25% of his posts result in a thanks!

Is it possible for a literal version of: "For he's a jolly good fellow?" ♬ ♬♩

Is this a record?

Is it possible that he won't see this as I don't recall seeing him in GD.

What's prompted this thread? The fact that you admire a poster who has received 1000 thanks...or are you feeling guilty about your recent spate of internet bullying, and trying to make amends?

Credit where credit is due, surely.

I haven't been around as long as he has, but while I've been here he hasn't found it necessary to make a cheap jibe at anyone, as far as I know.
If we could all aspire to that......

If so I can confirm that he provides excellent advice on the Car Forums. I have thanked him several times myself.

I didn't want to put his name up, 'cos for some reason those kind of threads disappear quickly.

Saying thankyou to a grease monkey - now that's a novel idea.

I suppose folks are overwhelmed at getting something free from a mechanic.......

.....as opposed to, a lingering look under the bonnet, a sharp intake of breath (with a head shake) and a potential bill for a grand. Even if the problem is a bald rear tyre.

That is unfair. He spends HIS time to benefit us. You could make the same statement for all tradesmen who assist us on here.

We should appreciate them, not slag them.

I must admit Merlin, you have me in a quandry now. Should I look after myself by responding to your silly jibes, or should I report your silly comments.

Hmm, on this occasion, I'll respond, although I have refrained from doing so for a few days, in deference to Mods request and the enjoyment of other posters.

When will you have the sense to do likewise?

Would you prefer that I respond or report your comments?

Or would you prefer that I behave like others and use abusive insults, childish hints or non-too-subtle inferences?

Or are you happy if I just soak up the insults with no reaction?

I'd prefer to report such posts and maintain the state of decorum that we appear to have achieved.

Can we have a truce? I'm up for it.

i'd have to agree... RH seems a decent sort. Perhaps gets a bit too embroiled (as we all do sometimes), but i don't think i've seen him dish out any nonsense unless it's been chucked at him first !! So fair play to him.

I do struggle with all this who's come back as who, and who also posts as them, and he/she is a mod etc.... but what i do find interesting is the regulars who suddenly disappear... Joe90's gone !!! Ironnaz, dangermouse46, nordio, homes??? i'm sure there are many more..
