Tiles protruding from the wall - tidying it up - with pics

Hi all,

Absolute novice here, please forgive me if I'm being very green!

I recently had some work done in the kitchen and it was decided that tiling onto the old tiles was the best solution (price/amount of time ripping out and replastering/new tiles etc)

Whilst the guy has done his best to tidy up the work and make it neat, I'm conscious that the tiles are protruding out quite a bit.

Is there some way of adding some sort of beading tp the work to smarten it up and to make it look less obvious on the eye?

Look in to fixing a tile trim....square/straight/round etc....genesis is the first one that pops to mind....

Also with tiles already fixed you may need to go for a plastic trim and cut the back off with a Stanley blade and fix on with silicone...if going done this route make sure you get one thick enough to cover the tiles.

Did he supply the tiles..?

Yes...then he should have advised you about t/trim...

No...you supplied them,without t/trim,then he may have thought you didn't want to use one,but he should have double checked with you....

Have a had a few weird requests over the years re:tile fixing mate....

Having only just looked at tile trim I see what you mean. Is retro fitting straight forward?

not really! sticking it on after it never seems to sit properly.

i'd be inclined to just 'point the edge with white grout and get a chamferred finish on that - richard\tictic what are your thoughts?

Try looking at gradus/shulter/homelux/genesis ect for tile trim you should get a PVC trim that will cover the two course off tiles about 15mm+...square/round edge etc and cut the back off and silicone it on.

Well that’s what I thought unless he’d managed to get hold of some bevelled ½ tiles (never seen any can you get them?); got to say it’s not something I’d do, it must look very strange. I’ve done a few brick weave splash backs in plain rectangular slips & have black matt in my own kitchen but you need to think carefull about using bevelled edge. You can cut the bevel off on the internal corners which looks OK but open ends don’t really work & I can’t see how it will ever look good.

As far as finishing off goes; I’m not a lover of trim, especially the plastic stuff, & tend to leave the tops/sides open & filled or finish off with border tile but, with tile on tile, the edge is going to be quiet thick. A tile border trim over the top might work but not sure how it would look with bevelled edge tiles & then there’s still the vertical edge!

If you’re thinking of using bevelled edge tiles, you really need to think the layout through & how it’s going to look; brick weave only really works if you fill between two walls.

You could always frame with a decorative wood trim. Not ideal but would tidy it up. You can buy it from all DIY stores.,
