Hi...

I have a 7kw triton electric shower which i am going to replace as it has developed a fault, the current fuse rating is 30amp.
I am replacing the 7kw shower with a new Triton seville 7.5kw shower, i understand the fuse rating will now be 32amp, my question is this... would it be safe to use the 30amp fuse... ? and if not, i notice that physically the size of the 32amp fuse is bigger... so presumably i would need a new consumer fuse holder?? any help with this would be much appreciated. cheers.

The manufacturers instructions require a 32 Amp MCB and 6mm T&E cable and specifically tell you not to use a rewireable fuse - they also insist the circuit is additionally protected by an RCD.

So you are limited to what you can do.

One option is to fit a new shower consumer unit in addition to your existing old fuse box, but that will involve splitting the incoming meter tails and is not really for the diyer.

It might be time to call the electrician in to sort out your electrical leads.
If you do my advice would be to get an 8.5kw shower rather than the 7.5kw one.

In the first instance.

What make of Consumer unit do you have? Has it got any form of RCD protection? How far is the cable run to the shower? How is it run to the shower i.e. what does it pass through? What is the cable csa?

Why do you think a fuse that's 32amp is physically larger than one that is 30amp?
