Tilling bare plaster skim

I am about to commence tilling my bathroom walls and was wondering what primer I would need for fresh plaster skim. I've checked my tile weight and they are well below the 16Kg/m2 recommended. I have a norcross tanking system for the shower cubicle but will I need to tank above the bath as well?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What material & size are the tiles?

The tiles are 4.5mm thick porcelain tiles (600mm x 300mm).

Yes it comes with a 500mm bottle but wont cover every where that I will be tilling. It will probably just prime the shower walls. Is there a decent not too expensive primer that i can purchase to prime the rest of the room (another 9M2)?

Its just skim and it was done over 2 weeks ago, would this not be plenty of time for the plaster to dry out?

Depends; if it’s just a slim you’ll be OK to tile after 14 days. If it’s a base coat & skim, then 4 weeks is the mark. Don’t douse the tiles in water for 14 days after laying.

For that size tile you must use cement powder addy, not tub ready mix or you could have problems with setting. You will need an acrylic primer to avoid reaction between the cement in the addy & gypsum in the plaster. Forgot to ask what the skim is over; if it’s boards use either Rapidset flexy or Single part flexy (SPF), otherwise use a Rapidset or a suitable modified addy with a longer set time.

Posts were all a bit quick there; if you’ve tanked it then the gypsum thing is not relevant but the acrylic primer is the same; it does pay to use tiling materials from the same manufacturer though
