Last year i replaced a single ceiling rose with six spotlights. No problem, all evenly spread out, all worked fine.
Twelve months on, only two are working constantly, one by one they have stopped working. Another does work every now and then, but ultimately 4 out of 6 have stopped.
Could this be transformers? Too high voltage bulbs (at the moment they have 50w bulbs in, but not sure what they had originally)?
Any suggestions welcome!

Find out what the transformer load values are and the actual load they are taking.
But yeh sounds like your tranys are starting to die!

These:

Failed transformers
Failed lampholders
Defective wiring
Burnt connectors
All of the above.

I get called out to repair a lot of 12V downlights. The usual culprit is that the MR16 lamp holder and tails have overheated because the client has not used the correct lamp (light bulb). If you have downlights that are enclosed (like an upside down can) than you should be using aluminium backed MR16 Bulbs that "throw" the heat forward rather than back into the can.

If it is not the tails then its probably the transformers.

Why didn't the fact that you needed 6 times as many tell you that the new ones were no good at lighting up rooms, and therefore inappropriate?

What was the combined wattage of them? 210W? 300W?

What was the wattage of the light you removed?

Did you really think that in terms of how well they worked and how much power they consumed you were improving things?
