Edit: agh, its failure rate is 1/24 so 13416 germinate, 11180 into plants.

Easy sec. 583 seeds fail to germinate. 13,417 germinate, but 5/6 of those don't grow into plants, leaving you with 11,181 plants (all figures rounded up/down)

560 seeds fail to germinate, the total amount is divided by 25, not 24. A ratio is the two numbers added together. If you mix sand and cement 4:1 then you put 5 shovels in in total.

I agree with horshamhobo, if only because the answer is a whole number:

24 out of every 25 seeds will germinate.
5 out of every 6 germinated seeds grow into plants.
5 out of every 6 is 20 out of every 24

So 20 out of every 25 seeds becomes a plant. That's 80% of the original 14000, or 11200 as stated by LastMagicBean.

I ended up with AS's answer.

I forgot to add the 24 and the 1 and divide by 25. I divided by 24.....

Although my son is a genius and got it right immediately.
