Plumber has been, few questions - Help needed please

The valve isn't the original but I would hardly say it was new.

And as for the pump.... 13/14 years I have been doing this, and I can't remember buying a new Grunny that looked like that.

Anyway - TF1 are crap.

Suggestion 4 is b*****t.

Suggestion 5 is also boolax - external corrosion on a rad in a bathroom has no bearing on what is going on inside. Especially if said rad is next to the bog.

How modern is this control panel?

You would possibly benefit from an AAV on the heating pipe just after the pump as your vent pipe (from what I can see) is on the negative side of the pump, air isn't likely to go up that naturally.

If the rads heat up nicely, then the pump is fine.

The Control panel is a Siemens RWB29 - Programmer we had it fitted when we moved in.

The only thing I have notice which seems different to pictures I have seen and other peoples systems is two leads into the cylinder thermo stat.

Although im not sure this matters.

Would you recommend a Spirotech mangabooster instead? He suggested that as an alternative.

When the CH is on, the radiator get lovely and warm, I do need to bleed them every 4 months though, which im not sure if is normal.

Thank you.

Well the body is certainly newer than the nuts! I would guess not much older than 2-3 years at most.

As to the age of the head, I cannot work out the date on that one!

The valve above the pump is pretty new and I would guess the pump was changed as well and not very long ago. Dont you remember when that was done?

This friendly plumber seems very keen to change a lot of bits, most of which I dont expect to provide any/much improvement.

Perhaps making a £190 job into a £500 job!

I would usually use x800 as a cleanser as its faster ( 2-4 hours ) and a lot stronger!

Tony

Thanks Tony
We have only lived here for 1 1/2 years and there are no receipts in the folders, nothing has been changed since we have been here other than the control panel and room thermostat (as they were a bit ancient)

Can I post any other pictures or info which would help?

I don't want to have to replace things which don't need changing or adding in filters which might add no benefit.

But equally well he is here and the system is drained I might as well get as much done as is needed. The guidance seems to be split at the moment,

Do the pumps tend to last?

I really appreciate all your guys helps

Thanks :D

The two leads just mean the stat is probably wired correctly.

Bleeding every 4 months is a lot, but not alarming. A quick flush and treat the system with inhibitors.

The Spirovent is ok, but I prefer the Magnaclean.

If the system is drained then it's up to you really. The pump could live longer, it could die next week. But the guy should be able to tell you if the valve is guffed or not.

Are these inline filters a waste of money? Like the Spirotech Magnabooster?

Also if I did say yes to the pump is the one he has suggested decent?
http://www.screwfix.com/p/wilo-4132507-smart-central-heating-pump-a-rated/53435

and better than the "new" model of the Grundfos I have now?

Im going to tell him to replace the valve as it does seem to be the general opinion that its the problem

These smart pumps are a complete con....or at least the claimed savings.

Magnetic inline filters as a concept are very good though. Every tf1 we have fitted has leaked. Spirovent have been been fine but the Magnaclean is the easiest to clear and catches the most muck.

Wilo get a bad rep, but I've not had any issues with them. Grundfos are better though.

It sounds like I'm best just leaving the pump, if I was to replace it what is the equivalent Grundfos?

I've heard that all these inline filters leak badly, the plumber said the magnaclean leak the worst, but I'm willing to ignore him if the opinion is he is wrong?

I will get him to order me a new three way valve tomorrow as a cert, is there anyone which is better or the best?

Stick with honeywell.

As to which filter. ?..

It's down to personal preference again.

Magnaclean did have an issue years ago but they have been through several revisions.

If you plan to clean it yourself then definitely the Magnaclean.

All i know is i have tried the others and have always gone back to Magnaclean.

The Spirovent will never leak, but cleaning it is a performance for the homeowner as it involves buckets and hoses.

I will suggest the magnaclean to him tomorrow morning.
Which one would you suggest?
Will it definetly not leak?

Which replacement pump would you suggest? In terms of like for like?

For Price the wilo is fine. Otherwise get the cheapest Grundfos you can find.

Personally I would have a more expensive, simpler grunny over a cheaper and cleverer wilo. But if I was being charged cost+20% I would be happy with either.

Which Magaclean would you suggest as being the best and least likely to leak?

I will speak to him and get a Grun.
