The transformer has to have a "TX upgrade subject to wayleaves"
If what the OP has told us is accurate, it sounds as if there is just one transformer supplying the village (or part of the village) and the place where the OP wants the new supply is near to the end of a fairly long run from that tranny. Would they be suggesting that he had to pay for an upgrading of that transformer serving the whole village (or a substantial part thereof) in order to be able to provide him with the new supply?Basically the existing transformer isn't big enough for the existing and proposed load so they need to change it to supply you.
Would this upgrade 'clean up' the supply
Is four grand reasonable given Im doing the donkey work
Have I any chance of an overhead instead of digging?

Well, yes, that's probably the case, but I wonder how necessary the upgrade really is. He told us that "All I want it for is lighting and domestic power tools-and the all important kettle!!". Should it not be possible for him to be provided with a small supply, adequate for his needs, without having the upgrade the village's transformer? Would they have been operating so close to the limit that a few more amps would take them 'over the limit'? If so, is he perhaps being asked to make an appreciable contribution to the cost of a transformer upgrade that was probably already needed? From the amount quoted, I would say he is only being asked to make a contribution towards the cost, not the full amountWould they be suggesting that he had to pay for an upgrading of that transformer serving the whole village (or a substantial part thereof) in order to be able to provide him with the new supply?
Varies but can be low, so on a large housing estate with gas CH & water heating, choice of cooking and possibly an immersion heater it will be around 2kW (ADMD, After Diversity Maximum Demand). What is the estimated wattage for each normal domestic property Westie

I'm a little surprised that the figures are even that high. Ofgem figures indicate that the average domestic electricity consumption is about 3,300 kWh per year. Even if one made the pessimistic assumption that electricity was only consumed for 12 hours per day (and the same 12 hours for all households), that would still only amount to an average demand (over those 12 hours) of about 0.75 kW per household!Varies but can be low, so on a large housing estate with gas CH & water heating, choice of cooking and possibly an immersion heater it will be around 2kW (ADMD, After Diversity Maximum Demand). Fair enough - but if I were the OP, I'd certainly be (fairly tactfully - so probably not quite in those words ) asking them that question!! What is the smallest supply that a DNO would be likely to be prepared to provide? Not knowing any details about the network etc I have absolutely no ideaIf so, is he perhaps being asked to make an appreciable contribution to the cost of a transformer upgrade that was probably already needed?
